Joins Raytheon
Former Missile Defense
Agency (MDA) Deputy Director Peter C. Franklin has joined Raytheon
Integrated Defense Systems as vice president of Raytheon's Missile
Defense Strategic Business Area (SBA). Franklin will focus on
achieving an integrated view of Raytheon's vast missile defense
capabilities, creating total missile defense solutions for complex
missions, and stimulating the company's efforts to capture new
missile defense business.
Operating from Raytheon offices in Tewksbury (MA) and Arlington
(VA), Franklin's responsibilities include understanding and
defining warfighter needs and developing and assessing potential
total solutions. Franklin will report to Dan Smith, president of
Integrated Defense Systems and will work closely with missile
defense product line vice presidents across Raytheon.
Missile Defense is one of Raytheon's four strategic business
areas. Initiated in 2002, the SBAs enable Raytheon to align itself
more closely with its customers, position the company for growth,
and facilitate greater agility and speed in responding to customer
needs.
Franklin retired from the U.S. Army as a major general in 2003,
concluding a distinguished 33-year career in service to his
country. Prior to joining Raytheon, Franklin served as the deputy
director for the Missile Defense Agency, where he advised the
director and acted on his behalf in managing, directing and
executing the U.S. Missile Defense Program. His previous
assignments include deputy for Systems Management, Assistant
Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology;
commander, U.S. Army Simulation, Training and Instrumentation
Command; assistant deputy for Systems Management, Secretary of Army
Staff; and executive officer for the Army's Space and Strategic
Defense Command. Franklin commanded various air defense units with
Patriot, Stinger (below), Chaparral, Hawk Vulcan and Redeye systems
through brigade level.
Franklin holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master's
degree in guided weapons systems engineering from the British Royal
Military College of Science.
