Florida Antique Biplane Association (FABA) Flies Into Fantasy of Flight

The Florida Antique Biplane Association (FABA) will be flying into Fantasy of Flight on Saturday, March 26th, 2005. Dozens of brightly colored blue, yellow and red multi winged vintage planes will be flying into Fantasy of Flight through out the morning on Saturday and staying the day to enjoy the hundreds of planes and exhibits Kermit Weeks has on display at his one of a kind aviation attraction.

FABA started in March of 1996 with five Stearmans and one N3N. As a result, the Florida Stearman Owner’s Group was born. This initial hard-core group of “air beast” drivers, as they refer to themselves, continued to meet at various airport restaurants and the private airstrips owned by the members of the group. The Florida Stearman Owners Group underwent a metamorphosis and became The Florida Stearman-Antique Biplane Owners Group as attendance swelled and more non-Stearman owners became interested in joining the gatherings. The Antique Aircraft Association took the fledgling group under their wing and allowed them to become a Chapter of the National organization. This year, the Florida Antique Biplane Association, Inc. has over 98 members and over 70 airworthy antique biplanes of all types.

Visitors to Fantasy of Flight will be able to enjoy their arrival and see these beautiful classics while they are on the ramp. Only members of FABA will be able to fly into Fantasy of Flight on March 26th by pre-registering with Larry Robinson at the Florida Antique Biplane Association, Inc. at 561-732-3250 or BeyeView@aol.com. FABA members will also be participating in the newly developed “Ground School for Ground Crew” an FAA Wings program that teaches the fundamentals of flight line safety and marshalling techniques. Non-FABA members can attend this seminar by registering on line at www.FAAsafety.gov.

Much more than an aviation museum, Fantasy of Flight is home to the “World’s Greatest Aircraft Collection” featuring over 70 beautifully restored rare and vintage aircraft, opportunities to fly in a vintage biplane, Corsair flight simulators, daily restoration shop & back-lot tours, aircraft of the day flights, a gift shop and the art deco “Compass Rose Diner” open daily for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Fantasy of Flight is located midway between Tampa and Orlando off I-4 exit #44.
