Raytheon Considers New Business Jet

Slated Between Hawker 850XP, Hawker 400XP

Raytheon Aircraft is said to be working on a new business jet to fill the product gap between its Hawker 850XP midsize jet and the Hawker 400XP light jet (shown below) -- a segment currently occupied by Bombardier's Learjet 45, and the Citation XLS from Cessna.

"We're looking at defining what it's going to look like," Raytheon Aircraft spokesman Mike Turner told the Wichita Eagle. "It's going to fill that niche, but I don't know what form it's going to take."

To fit in that segment, Raytheon's proposed jet -- which would likely be a derivative of an existing jet in Raytheon's fleet, and not an all-new plane -- would need a range of approximately 2,000 miles, and seating for between 8-10 passengers and crew.

No decision has been made on when Raytheon might announce their new aircraft -- though don't count on it before this year's NBAA convention in mid-October, according to Turner.
