Pilots Safe Following 'Red Flag' Midair Over Alaska

Scratch One F-15C From Inventory, Though

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 06.11.07 1945 EDT: Two US military jets participating in the Red Flag Alaska training exercise collided Monday morning, forcing one pilot to punch out of his F-15C. The pilot of the second jet was able to return his stricken F-16C to base safely.

The pilot who ejected was taken to a nearby military hospital, Eielson Air Force Base spokeswoman Jennifer Anton told The Associated Press, adding the pilot did not have serious injuries.

The accident occurred over the Pacific Alaska Range Complex, a 60,000-acre training ground located in the central part of the vast state. The F-15 was based at Virginia's Langley Air Force Base; the F-16C was from Nellis Air Force Base, outside Las Vegas, NV.

Over 1,400 military personnel from the US, Australia, and Singapore are participating in Red Flag, which runs through Friday.

A board of officers will investigate the incident, according to military reports.
