Honeywell Enhances In-Flight Connectivity In Embraer Legacy 450/500 Jets

Embraer Opts For Honeywell Ovation Select Cabin Management System

Embraer has chosen Honeywell’s Ovation Select Cabin Management System (CMS) for its new family of Legacy 450/500 jets, providing passengers with state-of-the-art connectivity for work and leisure.

“Honeywell’s Ovation Select is a highly innovative system taking the in-flight experience to the next level,” said Mauricio Almeida, vice president, program – Executive Jets, Embraer. “Its seamless connectivity and high-definition capabilities perfectly complement our Legacy 450/500 aircraft to create the optimal on-board passenger experience.”

Honeywell’s Ovation Select features an enhanced intuitive interface that enables passengers to stay informed and connected with their business operations while travelling. With Ovation Select, in-flight connectivity is seamless and easy – whether travelers are connected via their BlackBerry or laptop, using their iPad, iPod or iPhone or watching a Blu-ray movie. An additional updated feature is the 3D high-definition moving map application JetMap HD, which allows passengers to view their flight path from up to 18 different perspectives and zoom in close on the terrain below. Honeywell’s Ovation Select is on track for a planned certification in July 2011.

“The second generation Ovation Select digital cabin system delivers unprecedented connectivity to meet the expectations and needs of today’s business passenger,” said Rob Wilson, president of Honeywell Business and General Aviation. “Moreover, it is scalable to satisfy the growing bandwidth demands of tomorrow’s high-tech communication devices.”

The modular, lightweight and flexible cabin management system provides high-quality, crystal-clear surround sound audio, vivid full high-definition (1080p) video and digital communication distribution throughout the cabin, which can be tailored to any business or entertainment need. Accessing and controlling the total cabin environment is accomplished through enhanced icon-based, touch-screen interfaces that offers a similar look and feel, whether it’s the full-size monitor, drink-rail-mounted personal control units or wireless hand-held remote.

To further enhance the passenger experience, JetMap HD, hosted by the system’s Media Interface Unit, provides high-definition 3D moving maps with worldwide 15-meter satellite imagery resolution. This high-resolution map capability is easily customizable and allows users to view their flight path from different perspectives, such as the view from the cockpit, passenger window or from an aerial surround view of their jet. Its superior and unrivaled zoom capabilities also allow users to zoom in on street-level details below.

In addition to controlling the system’s entertainment and productivity components, Ovation Select also puts lighting, seats, temperature, galley and window shade controls at the passengers’ fingertips.

Ovation Select is built on a 100-percent digital architecture and Ethernet backbone, which reduces installation time versus competing systems, and facilitates the standard end-to-end self-diagnostic and troubleshooting capability. It has been tested to the current industry standard for greater resiliency of environmental and electromagnetic effects. In addition, Ovation is virtually immune from external aircraft interference. The architecture is scalable from general aviation aircraft up to and including air transport category business and personal aircraft.
