Singer-Songwriter Was Fatally Injured After Plane Hit A Wire

The pilot of a crop dusting airplane that was fatally injured when his plane went down Saturday had been a Grammy-nominated singer songwriter.

John Allen Seay Jr. lived in Glen Rose, TX. Television station KWTX reports that his plane struck a tower guy wire Saturday afternoon shortly before 1400 local time, and Seay was ejected from the airplane.

The station reports that Seay, who performed for much of his career under the name Johnny Sea, had been a singer/songwriter for decades, as well as an occasional actor. He recorded his first record in 1959, and was a cast member on the Hayride radio, and later television country music show broadcast from Shreveport, LA.

He was nominated for  Grammy for his song "Day for Decision" on Warner Brothers Records, but lost to a collection of recordings by Edward R. Murrow, according to the report.

Seay switched back to his given name in the late 1960s, and eventually left the music business to become a cowboy on a Texas Ranch.

According to his family, he had been a cropduster for 30 years, and had amassed more than 18,000 hours in his logbook.
