Plane Smart Is The Latest Offering From Guardian Avionics
Guardian Avionics is branching out into an iPad-compatible data recording system called Plane Smart, which it introduced at AirVenture this week.
Guardian has integrated the following products reporting to the SMT851:
-SMT554- Flight Data Recordor/CO Detector/AHARS
-SMT650-Flight Data Recorder/Co Detector/USB Power
-SMT555-Flight Data Recorder/ Pulse Oximeter/Co Detector/AHARS
All information is fed into their SMT851, which in turn displays information on your iPad mini, iPad Pro, or iPhone. When inserted into Guardians panel mount and connected to your EFIS or GPS and engine management system the data is then displayed in an easy to use multifunctional display format and recorded on the Guardian Avionics SmartMFD app, which also provides easy access to sectional, VFR and IFR charts as well as airport and radio communication information. What is really unique is you can control many of the functions by Voice command through your headset microphone.
When the flight is complete your recorded data in the SmartMFD app is automatically uploaded to your account on the Guardian Avionics SmartCloud web application for you to review your flight through maps and engine performance charts in one place. No USB drives or SD cards needed. Everything is uploaded wirelessly.
The SmartCloud application allows you and your mechanic to review long-term engine data to be proactive in your future maintenance and to be able to store it for future review. By using your existing iPad you can use other applications such as Foreflight, FlyQ and other flight planning programs, while running the SmartPlane in the background still collecting data.
The SMT851 will cost about $1000 and even if you factor in the cost of a new iPad your data recording costs will be a lot less than buying a another manufacturer's data recorder and the SmartPlane does a whole lot more.
