Three Mid-Eastern Airlines Opt For New Honeywell APU, Service Agreement

Covers Airbus, Boeing Equipment For SriLankan Airlines, Jet Airways And JetLite

In an effort to improve reliability and reduce operating costs through a fleet modernization program, SriLankan Airlines has selected Honeywell to provide maintenance services on its Airbus A320s equipped with Honeywell’s131-9A Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). The airline currently operates four of the single-aisle aircraft.

SriLankan Airlines also confirmed selection of Honeywell’s 131-9A on four new Airbus 320s and will be installing a new Honeywell APU on one in-service Airbus A320. Aircraft are scheduled for delivery this year. Honeywell’s reliable and cost- efficient APU is expected to increase the airline’s dispatch rate while reducing overall operating and maintenance costs.

“This A320 APU maintenance contract further expands our existing relationship with Honeywell to provide APUs and maintenance services for its entire fleet including our A330 and A340 aircraft. Honeywell’s ongoing product support, dedicated team of field service engineers, customer support personnel and global service center rental bank network complement SriLankan Airline’s mission to provide a reliable and a pleasant travel experience to passengers,” said Mr. Priyantha Rose, head of engineering, SriLankan Airlines.

"Since entering service, the Honeywell 131-9A APU has exceeded a 99 percent on-time dispatch rate, allowing SriLankan Airlines to reliably service their global routes while lowering overall maintenance and operation costs,” said Greg Albert, vice president of Airlines, Honeywell Aerospace. “To date, more than 70 airlines have opted for this dependable workhorse on the A320.”

Jet Airways B737

Similarly, India-based Jet Airways and its subsidiary, JetLite, have selected the company for comprehensive global maintenance support for APUs fitted on their fleets of Boeing B737s and Airbus A330 aircraft.

“Efficiency and a robust commitment to quality is reflected in everything we do, including the partnerships we enter that support our brand promise. We selected Honeywell because we see the same qualities in their company, their products and their people,” said Sitham Nadarajah, executive vice president for technical operations at Jet Airways.

Honeywell’s new APU maintenance contract will provide Jet Airways and JetLite with predictable maintenance costs through 2018. The agreement covers maintenance support for the 131-9B APU on Boeing 737NGs, and the 331-350 APU on Airbus A330s. Jet Airways and JetLite currently operate a combined fleet of 73 B737NGs and 12 A330s. During the program term, fleet size is expected to grow to 100 B737NGs and 25 A330s.

An APU is a small turbine engine used for main engine starting, as well as providing electrical power to airframe and cockpit systems.
