Biggest S. Asian Order Includes 190 Narrowbodies, 30 Widebodies with Options
Air India continued its growth with a pretty hefty order for up to 290 new aircraft from Boeing, with a hearty mix of almost every passenger aircraft in the catalog.
The deal was finalized at the recent Paris Air Show, with both companies holding a signing ceremony to show off their agreement. In all, the order includes 190 737 MAXs, 20 787 Dreamliners, and 10 777X jets - with options for 50 more 737s and another 20 787s.
It's Boeing's "largest order in South Asia", adding to a 90-year partnership with Air India. While the sale of fresh planes is always nice to see, Boeing execs were probably just as jazzed to see the selection of Boeing's service arm for the carrier, too. Boeing Global Services will support Air India with a range of logistics, including parts provisioning, digital applications, training programs and modification services. That agreement will allow Air India to use Jeppesen's collection of crew management apps and software solutions; Boeing's parts selection and exchange programs; and its modifications to the existing 787 fleet.
“Our relationship with Boeing includes both airplanes and services that will support our requirements for fleet expansion and continuous improvement in operational efficiency for decades to come,” said Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD, Air India. “As we plan for transformative growth in the years ahead, the services provided by Boeing will be an essential part of our efforts to improve reliability, on-time performance and customer satisfaction.”
“We greatly appreciate Air India’s confidence in our products and services,” said Stephanie Pope, president and chief executive officer, Boeing Global Services. “We look forward to supporting them by ensuring their current and future fleet flies safely, sustainably, and efficiently.”
