Aero-TV: AMA's New President Rich Hanson - Hail To The (Model Aircraft) Chief

AMA Is A Seed-Ground For New Science And Technology In Aeronautics And Aerospace…

While at the AMA Expo West in January 2017, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, was able to spend some time with Rich Hanson, who is the recently elected President of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The infusion of the new technology of quadcopter style drones is expanding AMA’s role in radio controlled model aircraft flying.

Hanson starts off by saying that model aviation has always been a seed-ground for new science and technology in aeronautics and aerospace. He also says that what we’re seeing today is an advancement in hobby flying, and it’s also an advancement into a new industry.

Hanson goes on to discuss how this new technology is good, yet he recognizes it also causes some concerns. The AMA believes hobby operating regulations for drone type model aircraft need to be clarified, and issues regarding such things as safety and privacy need to be addressed. You’ll hear about how the AMA is working with the FAA to create positive solutions to these issues.

While you listen and watch, you’ll see some fascinating video of various types of model aircraft in action. You’ll also be seeing a lot more about model aircraft as ANN and the AMA have joined to produce the AMA Drone Report video programming that can be seen at www.amadronereport.com.
