Lancair Improves Cargo Access for 4-Place models with 40% larger XL Baggage Door

Need More Room To Fit Those Oversize Bags?

Finding room for improvement on a Lancair may be a challenge, according to the company, but the new team continues to develop upgrades for both new and classic models. Introduced at EAA AirVenture 2018, an XL Baggage Door offers improved access for all non-pressurized 4-place models, including ES, IV and Mako.

Lancair’s new XL baggage door is 40% larger than the original design, opening up baggage compartment access for larger items, such as oversize suitcases, golf bags and more. Door area is increased from 375 sq. in. to over 530 sq. in.

In addition, instead of the previous top-hinged arrangement, the new door features heavier-duty hinges, relocated to the leading edge of the door. This improves safety in the unlikely event of in-flight hatch release and also reduces the risk of an overhead hatch door contacting one’s head while loading cargo. Finally, the hatch and opening are carefully built to tighter tolerances, resulting in improved fit and finish and reduced wind noise in flight.

The XL Baggage Door is available for all new Mako models and may be retrofitted at our facility to all non-pressurized 4-place models.
