New Obama FAA Counsel Appointee Has White House Ties

Kathryn Thomson Tapped Quietly Over Two Months Ago

An attorney appointed as the new chief counsel for the FAA by the Obama administration has ties to the White House, according to an online source.

The blog MSPB watch reports that Kathryn B. Thomson assumed her new role January 23rd. The previous Acting Chief Counsel had been Deputy Chief Counsel Marc Warren. Warren had assumed the post when Chief Counsel David Grizzle to the post of Chief Air Traffic Controller.

Thomson's previous post had been at the DOT, where she was an environmental advisor to Secretary Ray LaHood. She is married to Christopher Lu, who had been legislative director and chief of staff for President Obama when he was a U.S. Senator. He is now the White House Cabinet Secretary, and had raised money for the President during the 2008 campaign.
