Air Mauritius Selects Rockwell Collins Avionics For Its A340s

Rockwell Collins has been selected by Air Mauritius to provide avionics on three of its upcoming A340 aircraft, as well as for two additional A340s on option. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October 2006.

Rockwell Collins' WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar and GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR) are included in the avionics package.

The WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar (below) is a fully automatic radar that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by reducing unexpected turbulence encounters. MultiScan provides optimal weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.

The GLU-920 MMR is an integrated unit that provides the aircraft's primary position, velocity and time reference and enables precision landing capability. The advanced MMR also offers instrument landing system capability and high-integrity, satellite-based positioning for navigation and future landing functions.

Rockwell Collins reports the system also offers growth to support microwave landing system capability, and is designed to meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet types.

Other Rockwell Collins equipment chosen by Air Mauritius includes the ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900 High Frequency System, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, GNA-910 Global Navigation Antenna and the VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio.

First incorporated in 1967 with a sole Piper Navajo to its name, Air Mauritius flies from its island home to several European, Asian and African destinations.
