Airborne 09.14.20: Mooney Hit By Truck!, One Aviation BK Saga, Pawnee Dunked

An unfortunate Mooney was forced to execute a deadstick landing on an Eastbound lane of Florida's Interstate 75, Wednesday morning. A twitter post by FHP summed up the scenario... "A small airplane made an emergency landing on EB I75 (?? Alley) @ 40 mm.

Once landed, a pickup truck collided with the left wing of the plane. Thankfully no injuries. The EB right lane of I75 remains closed at this time." An engine failure downed the M20R Mooney over Broward County. The 2007 M20R Ovation 3 GX, N120GX, had two persons on board and executed a safe emergency landing on the right side of the road with no known damage as it came to a stop. Whew... right? All's well that ends well... until some idiot with a truck comes along... Facing tough economic conditions, some fairly unsavory foes, and the up-hill battle to get a new variant of the Eclipse VLJ certified and produced, One Aviation may finally be ready to come in out of the cold... maybe. Just, maybe. A once favored Chinese suitor, CitiKing, failed to complete the purchase of the company. They’re blaming the pandemic for this issue, and failed to convince BK Court Judge Christopher Sontchi to forbid the sale of the company to another party, instead, after One Aviation sought other purchasers. Last week, they got the go-ahead to seek an alternate buyer, though one has been in the wings for a while, and is reportedly prepared to undertake the sale, in whole, ASAP. The pilot of a Florida-based Piper PA–25 (pix by Okalosa Sheriff) got a swimming lesson last week when he lost the engine while towing a 90 foot banner near Okaloosa Island. Only 200 yards offshore and some 300 yards east of the Okaloosa Island pier, the pilot survived the immediate dunking, but the airplane is likely a total loss after immersion in saltwater.
