Forward Vision, Max-Viz Form Alliance To Bring Better Vision To GA

EVS-100 Now Available For Experimental Planes, Certified System Following

Forward Vision and Max-Viz announced a new partnership this week at Lakeland 2007, to provide the general aviation market with the same life-saving Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) Camera System that has been available to business jet and rotary wing aircraft through the Max-Viz product line.

"Forward Vision is excited about this strategic alliance with Max-Viz, the EVS industry leader, and looking forward to working with Max-Viz to bring the advantages of the latest technology in EVS to the general aviation fleet," said Patrick Farrell, President of Forward Vision.

As a result of the partnership, Forward Vision has developed a completely redesigned EVS design dubbed the EVS-100. According to Farrell (shown below), the EVS-100 uses a new-generation sensor technology that is "sunlight safe", while still offering "excellent imaging."

The systems use real-time infrared sensors, signal processing, and a cockpit display to provide pilots with actual images of terrain, runways, taxiways, aircraft and other potential obstacles during poor visibility conditions such as light fog, haze, smoke, precipitation and darkness.

Farrell tells ANN the EVS-100 literally "turns night into day" (as shown by the images above and below) and has been integrated into both the Experimental marketplace as well as certificated aircraft. The systems help to prevent night spatial disorientation, inadvertent entry into IMC when VFR, CFIT, midairs, runway incursions and other on airport accidents.

The company is now accepting orders and deposits for the new system for installation on experimental aircraft. For certified aircraft, a DO-160E compliant version is expected to be delivered later this year. A single-sensor system runs $14,995 (plus installation).
