Green Bay Reports Boat Buzzing

While a 'groundhogs' description of a "Buzz Job" may otherwise be a perfectly legal overflight, media reports from Green Bay suggest that someone may have flown a little low over an assemblage of tall ships in Wisconsin.

Local Law Enforcement reports suggest that two seaplanes (who, of course, operate off water and occasionally have the need to be over water at altitudes below those normally associated with non-seaplane ops) "buzzed" the tall ships between July 31st and August 1st.

Ground observations by Sheriff's Deputies and Green Bay PD (in patrol boats) claimed that the aircraft, 'flew below the height of the masts of the ships,' with deputy claiming that he thought 'one of the planes was about to crash into the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge.'

While such observations have the statistical rep for being notoriously unreliable (even from LE officials); identifying data, including N numbers, were reportedly taken and submitted to the FAA, 'for further investigation.'

ANN hopes that these accusations are not true and are little more than the standard over-reaction from folks who may not always understand what they see when it comes to General Aviation... however, this report and all others like it, certainly give the industry additional reason to make sure that not only are our operations legal, but scrupulously so...
