Canadian Pilot Fatally Injured During Air Show

Brian Evans Was Performing In T-28 Trojan Sunday Afternoon

An experienced aerobatic pilot with more than 4,000 hours in his logbook was fatally injured Sunday during the Cold Lake Air Show in Alberta, Canada.

The CBC reports that Bruce Evans was performing at the air show when the plane impacted terrain at a near-vertical angle. Witnesses said he appeared to be performing a loop in the airplane and didn't pull up at the bottom of the maneuver.

Evans was a geologist by profession, but held an ATP certificate and was the CEO of Firefly Airborne Surveys, which works primarily for the mineral, oil and gas industries. It also performs work for government agencies and special interest groups.

The plane impacted the ground a good distance from the crowd of some 20,000 who had come out to see the show, according to the report.

"4 Wing and CFB Cold Lake and the Cold Lake Air Show express our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. Evans," 4 Wing spokesman Capt. Mathew Strong said in an email.
