Brings Graphic Data-Link Weather To Integrated Avionics For
GA
WSI Corporation announced this week its WSI InFlight broadcast
cockpit weather service was selected by L-3 Communications Avionics
Systems to depict North American weather information on the new SmartDeck Integrated Flight
Controls and Display System.
SmartDeck integrates navigation and weather along with traffic
avoidance, terrain avoidance, communications, flight controls,
engine monitoring and enhanced vision into a single 'easy-to-use'
system. The WSI system will be offered as standard option to
general aviation aircraft OEMs.
"I am pleased that L-3 has selected WSI InFlight for their
integrated avionics suite recognizing the value that WSI delivers
with high quality, aviation specific weather information, said Jim
Menard, General Manager of WSI's Aviation business group. "It is
becoming apparent in the marketplace that data-link weather is a
must-have for any new aircraft cockpit and with WSI InFlight
available on the new SmartDeck platform, pilots will benefit from
enhanced situational awareness."
"L-3 has worked with WSI for some time," said Larry Riddle, Vice
President of Business Development for L-3 Communications. "It was
natural to extend the relationship to our next generation SmartDeck
platform based on WSI's performance, quality, and customer
feedback. Our joint desire to improve the safety and efficiency of
flight operations makes the WSI InFlight service a perfect fit with
our suite of avionics safety technologies."
The SmartDeck implementation of WSI InFlight will include WSI
NOWrad, depicting precipitation over the United States, Canadian
Radar, EchoTops, Lightning, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs and SIGMETs as
well as TFRs with more weather products anticipated in the
future.
The WSI InFlight weather broadcast will be received on board
SmartDeck equipped aircraft by the AV700 system built by the L-3
Aviation Recorders division.
