CAAC Gives Thumbs-Up To Cirrus

Chinese Cert Allows Home-Market Registration

Earlier this week, Cirrus Design Corporation told ANN the company has received full certification for the SR20 and SR22 from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) -- meaning Chinese owners of Cirrus planes can now register their planes in their home country, instead of flying with N-numbers (which were likely met with some curious looks on the ramp...)

Cirrus says CAAC certification will also expedite its development of market specific products that address the wants and needs of Chinese customers.

"Cirrus has worked closely with the CAAC, which has given generously of its time and focus to make this certification a reality," said Cirrus Regional Director of China and South-East Asia, Peter Claeys. The Chinese sales team, based in Shanghai, has been demonstrating a Cirrus SR22 GTS since May 2006 and expects to sell ten to twelve airplanes in the first year.

As Aero-News reported, Cirrus opened its first sales center in China last December.

Cirrus reports the company has a five-year corporate plan to boost visibility and accessibility of personal aviation in China and South East Asia.   By working with the CAAC on regulations and infrastructure development, Cirrus hopes to expand the use of personal aviation in the region overall.

"China and South East Asia play a vital role in the strategic growth of Cirrus.  We are dedicated to exposing the value of personal aviation in general and, specifically, to expanding the concept of the Cirrus personal transportation aircraft in the pan-Asian market." said Executive Vice-President of Sales & Marketing, John M. Bingham.
