American Legend Announces Special Edition Prices, Autopilot Option At Oshkosh

A Cub With An Autopilot...

When is a Cub a limousine? Well, we're not quite there yet... but American Legend continues to take its interpretation of the classic Piper Cub to new heights.

At AirVenture 2007, the company announced its Special Edition Legend Cub - -which incorporates the most popular configuration options chosen by Legend Cub customers. These include a J-3 style open cowl with a 100-horsepower Continental O-200 engine and a full Garmin avionics package with a panel-mounted GPSMAP 496. To sweeten the offering, American Legend is equipping the Special Edition Legend Cub with a collection of comfort, performance, convenience and safety options, for no additional charge.

The special equipment on the Special Edition Legend Cub includes an upgraded leather interior will full-width aft seat, a composite (lightweight and quiet) propeller, an air/oil separator, and 406 MHz next-generation ELT. All totaled, these popular options normally cost $3,685. Customers can expect delivery of their Legend Cub approximately 90 days from the date their order is placed.

There are a limited number of Special Edition Legend Cubs, and orders must be placed before the close of AirVenture Oshkosh 2007.

American Legend also announced its latest addition to its ever-growing list of options. The ADI Pilot II from TruTrak Flight Systems is a two-axis system to control aileron and elevator operation. The system is GPS-slaved and features solid-state digital gyros. Additional features include a built-in ADI for setting bank angle, pitch, and direction. Extreme bank angle and low airspeed are enunciated on the display. The ADI Pilot II also provides GPS navigation and altitude hold.

Two American Legend customers have already opted for an autopilot-equipped Legend Cub. The first chose an EFIS system and the autopilot, simply to reduce his workload. He commented, "I don't want stress in my life anymore," continuing that while flying he just might want to take a break to check the weather.

The second customer, commented "Wicked cool!"

American Legend says its Legend Cub reminds pilots of the joy and simplicity of stick and rudder flying (albeit with a glass panel cockpit, two-axis autopilot, and leather seats -- Ed.) that still today gives apt meaning to flying for plain fun.
