Attorney Says Obama-Era FAA Hiring Rules Hurt Airline Safety

Says Hiring Rules Were Changed To Assure More African-Americans Were Employed By The Agency

An attorney specializing in airline safety says that the FAA's hiring practices established during the Obama administration have been detrimental to airline safety during an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Attorney Michael Pearson outlined the changes implemented by the Obama administration designed to "increase diversity" among air traffic controllers because, he says, the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees said the workforce was "too white."

Pearson is suing the FAA over those hiring practices. He said that there is no data to support that increasing diversity in the ranks of air traffic controllers would make flying safer. "[T]he safety of the national airspace [is] at risk here," he told Carlson.

Person said hi was an air traffic controller for nearly 27 years, working at four of the nation's busiest airports. He said that much of the problem can be traced to NATCA.

He said that the union is a powerful force with the FAA, and calls the changes "social engineering at its finest."

The FAA declined to send a representative to appear on the program, according to a report from Fox News.
