Unidentified Plane Forces White House Evacuation

President Rushed To Shelter, Veep Hustled To "Secure Location"

REAL TIME UPDATE 1327 EDT -- President Bush was whisked from his Oval Office to the bomb shelter under the White House, while Vice President Dick Cheney was taken to an undisclosed secure location Wednesday, after air traffic controllers reported an unidentified plane violated the Washington ADIZ. Officials later said it had been a false alarm.

"There was an indication that an aircraft has entered the no-fly zone," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said. "There's an investigation to determine what it really was."

The Secret Service was similarly terse in its statement, although spokeswoman Lorie Lewis made a point to say the incident was over. "There was a report of a possible violation of restricted air space which has since been cleared and closed."

The president was reportedly in the bunker, beneath the executive mansion, for only a short period of time.
