Wake Turbulence Blamed In 2008 Mexican Crash

Mexican Interior Secretary, 15 Others Killed

Mexican authorities have determined that wake turbulence caused the crash of a Learjet 45 that went down in a wealthy neighborhood in November 2008, killing Juan camilo, the country's Secretary of the Interior, and 15 other people.

In a final report presented at a news conference Tuesday, Gilberto Lopez, the lead government investigator, said the pilots of the Learjet did not maintain sufficient distance behind a Boeing 767 enroute to Mexico City's International Airport.

The Associated Press reports that the finding confirmed the preliminary report, which was released last year. As Secretary of the Interior, Camilo was the second-higest official in the Mexican government.
