Schrenker: 'I Have No Memory Of' Plane Bailout

Says He's Under Psychiatric Care, Medication

Well, here's one way to use your one phone call when in prison. Embattled financial advisor and aspiring escape artist Marcus Schrenker called the New York Post from jail this week, telling the paper he cannot remember calling in a false distress call and then parachuting out of his Piper PA-46 Meridian over Alabama earlier this month.

"I have no memory of any of it -- not going to the airport, being in the air, nothing," the Post quoted Schrenker as saying, reports The Associated Press. "It's just crazy. I've never even jumped out of a plane before. I sit here and stare and the walls and wonder what happened and say, 'How did I get here?'."

Schrenker maintains his last memory is of attending his stepfather's funeral on January 9, two days before he bailed out of his plane somewhere over Alabama. He also told the paper he's been under psychiatric care since last year, and is taking medication for a seeming bipolar disorder.

As ANN reported, the pilot was apprehended by police January 13, at a campground in the Florida panhandle. Officers found him bleeding heavily from cuts on his wrists, and apparent suicide attempt.

Since then, Schrenker has spent his time under police supervision, first at an area hospital and, now, at the Escambia County Jail in Florida.

Schrenker's attorney told the court last week his client is not mentally competent to stand trial. Judge Roger Vinson ordered Schrenker sent for psychiatric evaluation in Miami as the next step.
