The plane's owner, Trans North Aviation Limited, said the those on board included the pilot, a pilot-trainee, a paramedic, the patient and his wife. They had departed form Jesup-Wayne County Airport in Jesup, GA. Their destination was Chicago Executive Airport in Prospect Heights. The patient and his wife live in the Chicago area, according to FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the pilot informed Chicago Executive that he was experiencing fuel problems before the plane went down. The accident caused a small fire that was quickly extinguished by emergency responders, who found two people dead in the wreckage. The third person died while being transported to an area hospital.

Cory said there were no injuries on the ground as a result of the accident, which remains under investigation. FAA records indicate the aircraft, which was built in 1975, was registered to Trans North Aviation based in Eagle River, WI.
