HKS Engine Approved For LSA

New Option For Powered 'Chutes, Trikes

HPower Ltd., the US distributor for the two-cylinder, four-stroke HKS 700E engine, told Aero-News this week the engine is in compliance with the ASTM consensus standard for light-sport aircraft engines.

HKS Aviation of Shizuoka-ken, Japan, the manufacturer of the HKS 700E engine, has declared that engines from serial number 101105 and above meet ASTM standard 2339-05, which governs the design and manufacture of reciprocating engines for light-sport aircraft. Compliance with the ASTM standard means the aircraft is applicable for use on special or experimental light-sport aircraft (S-LSA or E-LSA).

"We're delighted HKS Aviation made the effort to show compliance with the ASTM standard," said Tom Peghiny, president of HPower. "This standard assures buyers of a increased level of quality. The HKS 700E is a light-weight, fuel-efficient engine that offers aircraft owners a viable alternative to other engines."

The 60-hp, horizontally opposed, two-cylinder, four-stroke HKS 700E engine uses a combination of high technology and simplicity to achieve the twin goals of high power output combined with increased reliability. The HKS 700E is used to power light aircraft powered parachutes, and weight shift trikes.

More than 29 North American airframe manufacturers offer the HKS 700E on their aircraft.
