Heli-Expo 2006: Robinson Delivers R44 Police Helo with Moving Map Display

Silver State Helicopters is taking delivery of a Robinson R44 Raven II Police Helicopter equipped with the new moving map display at this year’s Heli-Expo in Dallas, Texas. Silver State plans to use the R44 Police Helicopter in their Sheriff Airborne Law Enforcement (SABLE) Program, a non-profit program helping small police agencies afford aviation support.

“The moving map display should be a big plus for us,” said Jerry Airola, President of Silver State Helicopters and a deputy sheriff.

“Our aircraft are typically the first ones on the scene but must wait for ground units to help pinpoint the exact location,” said Airola, “the moving map display will solve this problem.”

The operator can type in a particular address and the screen displays a street map showing the location of the address along with the position of the helicopter. Direction, distance, and estimated time of arrival are provided on an easy-to-use map to guide police to their destination. Started nearly two years ago, Silver State’s SABLE program works with 19 different sheriff’s departments in the U.S. and will expand to the Caribbean in March.

Airola says the R44 Police Helicopter is quickly becoming the primary aircraft in the SABLE program.
