Negative Reaction To Living Legends Of Aviation Award Reached Well Over 12,000 Before It Was Censored

The still-growing controversy to include the self-outcast Royal Prince Harry among some of those who have either innovated aviation, walked on the moon, and/or put their lives on the line for others has taken an interesting turn. On Friday, the increasingly questionable "Living Legends of Aviation" program awarded Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, an award for being a 'Living legend of Aviation.' In the days prior to this occurrence, an aggressive bit of controversy developed in which military leaders from the UK, as well as others from the aviation spectrum, protested the action... using terms like Bizarre, Preposterous and Phony. 

Another Day, Another Unflattering Boeing Moment on the Timeline

An 8-year old Atlas Air 747-8 made the rounds after footage of its nocturnal return showed an impressive trail of flames from one of its port side engines. The Atlas flight returned to Miami International shortly after departure, and landed successfully with no injuries reported. It's unfortunate timing for Boeing, given its recent brouhaha involving the inflight decompression of a new-production MAX 9. The intricacies of aircraft manufacture, maintenance, and overhaul are entirely lost on the public, and their desire to see dazzling footage of damaged aircraft propelled a video of the Atlas Air flight across the internet in minutes.

Learning Hub Bolsters Local Aviation Activity

The EAA's Education Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin has found continued interest since opening in July 2022, offering a "center for aviation learning for young people as well as experienced pilots". The Education Center will be searching for additional growth in 2024 in the hopes of serving thousands more. The $6.2 million Center was funded to completion after a final $600,000 matching grant from the Ray Foundation in late December 2023. Now complete, the 30,000-square foot facility has been financed privately from top to bottom.

Hydrogen Propulsion Sees Milestone in Emission-Free Aviation

Airbus completed its first powered ground test using its prototype hydrogen fuel cell system, seeing a 1.2-megawatt output. The combined "iron pod" system consisted of the electric motors to spin the propeller shaft, as well as the units to control, cool, and power them. The test is a "pivotal step on Airbus' ZEROe roadmap to put a hydrogen propulsion aircraft into service by 2035".

Charging Infrastructure Coming to Atlantic, One Way or Another

The Airplane Wreckage Was Located By Local Law Enforcement Beyond The Departure End Of The Private Runway

On January 6, 2024, about 0945 mountain standard time a Just Highlander airplane, N712DG, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Dolores, Colorado. Both pilots sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations personal flight. According to Automated Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) data, the airplane was flown from the Cortez Municipal Airport (CEZ), Cortez, Colorado on January 4, 2024. The data showed the departure time of about 1601. The airplane landed at the pilot’s private dirt airstrip about 1616.
