New GA Unit And Crew Mask Will Be Displayed At Oshkosh
The Oxygen Systems Division of Zodiac Aerospace is unveiling its new on-board oxygen generating system (OBOGS) and General Aviation Crew Mask for light, unpressurized single and twin engine aircraft at the Oshkosh this week. Infiniox will provide a continuous supply of oxygen, without varying flow rates, for six passengers up to an altitude of 25,000 feet. It replaces traditional high pressure oxygen cylinders, will be integrated with the aircraft’s avionics or can operate as a standalone retrofit system with an integrated display panel.
Infiniox represents a major step forward in convenience, comfort and enhanced safety for pilots and passengers,” said Mark Gilson, Director of Business Management for AVOX Systems, Inc. “It will allow the use of oxygen anytime, anywhere without concerns about depleting the on-board supply or servicing and refilling the high pressure oxygen cylinder. Pilots will be able to climb over weather and choose optimal enroute altitudes and won’t have to worry about where they can obtain refills. Safety is also significantly enhanced in that you do not need to be concerned if your passengers are getting the required amount of oxygen by setting a metered flow rate.
This unit, and the new GA crew masks should both be available by mid-year, 2013.”Several prototype units have been flying for over one year with great success. With comparable weight to a gaseous system, and powered by 28 volt DC current, the Infinox unit is 8 inches in diameter with an overall length of 28 inches. It is designed to transmit directly to aircraft avionics for system monitoring and fault annunciation and is fully protected against eletromagnetic or radio frequency interference.
“Testing for Infiniox is already underway,” Gilson noted. “We expect to receive initial Supplemental Type Certification (STC) from the FAA by the third quarter of next year.”
