99s First to Join FAA Safety Team

The Ninety-Nines, Inc., the world’s oldest organization for women pilots tells ANN that it has signed a Letter of Understanding with the Federal Aviation Administration making them the first National Industry Member of the FAA Safety Team.

The announcement of The 99s participation was made at the organization’s annual meeting held September 14, 2007, in Boulder, CO. International President Patricia H. Prentiss signed the Letter which outlines the services to be provided by The 99s in support of the FAASTeam.

President Prentiss noted the long history of The 99s in promoting aviation safety and education.

“The 99s has a long relationship with the FAA and its CAA predecessor in promoting aviation safety. This agreement allows us to continue that relationship and helps fulfill one of our mission objectives, to provide aviation education in the community.”

Chapters and members across the U.S. will assist the FAASTeam in sanctioned events, promote events in its publications, contribute to the FAASTeam website, and generally support the safety program.

The 99s has over 5500 members in Chapters and Sections throughout the world. Membership is open to any woman who holds a pilot certificate of student or higher. The organization sponsors the Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship program, an e-network designed specifically for professional pilots, another for student pilots, and a successful mentoring program.
