Airborne 02.12.20: Rough Field PC-24, Remote ID NPRM, GAMI Buys Osborne

Also: WAI Appoints McKay, Bombardier-Textron Tie-Up, Chicago Exec, RV-12/RV-12iS Three-Blade Prop

Pilatus has now obtained full rough field certification for the PC-24. Certification for operations on dry sand and gravel was delivered in 2018.

A comprehensive post-certification test campaign was conducted throughout 2019 to certify the Super Versatile Jet for operation on unpaved runways and in differing conditions. With immediate effect, all PC-24s may now also be operated on wet and snow-covered unpaved runways. The PC-24 was developed for use on rough fields from the outset. Its performance on short and unpaved runways opens up a significant degree of flexibility. The FAA's Remote ID NPRM has caused quite a ruckus, especially with the unmanned hobby segment, with the support of EAA and other entities doing their best to fight off what many people see as altogether ham-fisted rulemaking. Regardless of all that, the interest and response to the Remote ID NPRM has been HUGE! As of early Wednesday morning, the current tally shows the comment roster totaling and astounding 12,000+... GAMI Boss Tim Roehl has announced that the company had just bought the Osborne Tip Tank program and brought it under their wing... particularly interesting news for the Beechcraft community. GAMI's Roehl wrote that, "...GAMI has acquired the STCs and assets of J.L. Osborne, Inc., Victorville, CA. That business is currently being relocated to our facilities in Ada, OK where we will recommence the manufacture and sale of the premier tip tanks available for Beechcraft Bonanzas and other select aircraft models." All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
