Frontiers of Flight Museum Names New Board Chairman, President

BBA Aviation President McElroy Tapped For Top Spot

As the Frontiers of Flight Museum completes its 20th year of operation, Museum co-founders US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Chairman of the Board, and Jan Collmer, President announced the election of current Board Member Mr. Hugh McElroy (pictured, right)  to the position of Chairman on Wednesday. Mr. Dan Hamilton, Executive Director of the Museum has also been elected to the position of President/Executive Director. Both Senator Hutchison and Mr. Collmer will continue to serve the Museum in Emeritus status and in Board level capacities.

“Jan and I are both extremely proud of the Museum’s achievements and look forward to its continued success and development.” said Senator Hutchison. “We enjoy sharing the Museum’s mission to Educate, Motivate and Inspire the Next Generation. We are confident that this transition of leadership to Hugh and Dan, along with the continued strength of our Board, Museum Staff and Volunteers, will ensure the ongoing success of the Museum as its exciting journey continues.”

“We have seen the Museum grow tremendously over these past two decades from its humble beginnings at the Dallas Love Field Terminal to a world class center for aviation history, science and technology. As a Smithsonian Affiliate, the Museum has developed international acclaim as a historical and educational resource” said Mr. Collmer. “I am confident under Hugh’s vision and leadership, the Museum will continue to prosper and grow.”

Hugh McElroy is President of the BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul Group and its constituent companies Dallas Airmotive, Premier Turbines, International Turbine Services, Barrett Turbine Engine Company and H+S Aviation. In addition to his Board level service with various charities such as the American Red Cross and institutions of research and education such as UT Southwestern Medical Center, he is also Chairman Emeritus of the Millville Army Airfield Museum, the first US defense airport and advanced P40 and P47 fighter training base during WWII.

Dan Hamilton has been Executive Director of the Frontiers of Flight Museum since 2002 and has been responsible for leading its ongoing operations. Prior to joining the Museum, Dan served many years as CEO of an engineering and manufacturing firm specializing in factory automation and semiconductor processing equipment.

The Frontiers of Flight Museum was founded in Dallas during 1988 by U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Jan Collmer, and William E. Cooper. The Museum chronicles a broad collection of historic aircraft and space vehicles, including the Command Module from the Apollo 7 space mission.
