Bob Hoover Legacy Foundation to Petition USPS to Honor Bob on His 100th Birthday

Industry Invited to Support Campaign Seeking USPS Honors For “One of The Best of Us”

The Bob Hoover Legacy Foundation (BHLF), under the guidance of President Tracy Forrest and Chairman Michael Herman; has announced their intention to petition the United States Postal Service to honor the late Robert A. ‘Bob’ Hoover with a commemorative postage stamp on his 100th birthday in 2022.

The Foundation has commenced the multi-year process necessary to seek USPS selection of Mr. Hoover as a proper subject for such an honor in order to use this program to better inform and inspire America about the many ways that Hoover’s heroic service to the nation bettered their lives. It is hoped that this effort may also serve as an inspiration to the next generation of young people looking to make their mark upon the world.

BHLF President Tracy Forrest noted that, “Though Bob never sought honors or recognition for himself, we feel this honor may allow us to better communicate the enduring message of heroic service that typified Bob’s  life… and serve as a rallying point for a number of important programs and initiatives the Foundation has initiated.”

Chairman Michael Herman added that, “The word ‘hero’ was not one Bob applied to himself… but his actions over the course of decades of service to America certainly validate the fact that he was indeed, just that. The chance to start conversations all over the country, through the issuance of a Bob Hoover postage stamp, is an amazing opportunity for us to show America how great it can be… and inspire the next generation to aspire to emulate all that Bob stood for.”

The Foundation is reaching out to the aviation industry to support their campaign to seek USPS recognition of Bob… and will request endorsements, undertake online and in-person petition drives, and encourage media support as the campaign for this honor escalates in the coming months.

The U.S. Postal Service and the members of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) have set certain basic criteria used in determining the eligibility of subjects for commemoration on all U.S. stamps… including their willingness to “…honor extraordinary and enduring contributions to American society, history, culture or environment.”

Simply put, the Foundation believes that honoring Bob Hoover fits such a lofty goal exceptionally well, and serves the nation by honoring a man who typified the very best of military and aviation professionalism and heroism.

Note: The Bob Hoover Legacy Foundation is a 501c3 organization conceived and formed by R.A. Bob Hoover, in 2016, to perpetuate Bob’s life-long dedication to aviation learning and safety, and to inspire those qualities in succeeding generations of American aviators.
