Location: Hurricane, UT Accident Number: WPR20LA116
Date & Time: 03/28/2020, 1447 MDT Registration: N7997N
Aircraft: TL Ultralight SRO Stingsport Injuries: 2 None
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General Aviation - Personal

On March 28, 2020, about 1447 mountain daylight time, a TL Ultralight SRO Stingsport airplane, N7997N, sustained substantial damage during an off-field landing after experiencing a loss of engine power shortly after takeoff at General Dick Stout Field Airport (1L8), Hurricane, Utah. The commercial pilot and passenger were not injured. The airplane was registered to and operated by the pilot, under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91, as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the airport about the time of the accident, and no flight plan was filed for the local flight that was originating at the time.

According to the pilot, shortly after liftoff and about 250 ft above ground level, the engine abruptly quit. The pilot attempted to land on the remaining runway, however, the pilot landed long and touched down in a field. During the landing sequence, the airplane bounced, which resulted in the collapse of the landing gear.

The airplane was recovered to a secure location for further examination.
