Classic Aero-TV: 'WHOA Control' To The Max-Kitfox S7 STi Gets MORE STOLworthy

From 2015: One Of The Most Revered Classic SportPlanes Gets A New Set Of Wings... And Capabilities

If you try to think about a kit airplane company that has passed the test of time, one of the first names that would come to mind is, Kitfox.

This year they showed up at EAA AirVenture 2015 with what could best be called an “addendum” to their popular series 7 airplane, and ANN’s News Editor, Tom Patton, was there to get the scoop.

Tom met with Kitfox President and CEO, John McBean, to find out what’s going on with the Kitfox that stands a lot taller. McBean said they are catering to what could best be called, the “backyard flyer,” by designing a new wing and flaperon system for their series 7 airplane. The series 7 plane has always had great short field performance, but the new wing system is now providing takeoff and landing distances measured in the range of 100 feet.

McBean points out that the new wing system can not only be built into a new series 7plane, it can also be retrofitted to existing series 7 aircraft. He says they’re achieving this spectacular STOL performance using the same Rotax 100 horsepower engine. Added to the redesigned wing, is also a new landing gear system designed for tundra tires and rugged operation.

This video provides a good look at, and more information about, a tried and proven design that now has the capability of providing specialized performance.
