Airbus’ Set For Third 'Fly Your Ideas Student Challenge'

Competition To Focus On Six Key Air Transport Industry Issues

The next Fly Your Ideas (FYI) challenge will give students the opportunity to help shape the future of flight by addressing one of six issues facing the air transport sector: energy, efficiency, affordable growth, traffic growth, passenger experience, and community friendliness. Held every two years, this Airbus competition asks students to develop ideas for an eco-efficient aviation industry, with winners sharing the top prize of €30,000 (about $40,000) and the runners-up receiving €15,000, or nearly $20,000.

“Some solutions will require thinking out of the box,” said Charles Champion, Executive Vice President Engineering at Airbus and FYI 2013 patron. “At Airbus we work in a world of unobtainiums, solutions for seemingly impossible challenges that shape the way we live – like those that made air travel a reality. We want students to adopt that innovative spirit in FYI 2013.”

By giving students the chance to work on futures challenges, Airbus aims to better equip the next-generation global talent pool. University students of any nationality or discipline – from engineering to marketing; business to science; information technology to design – are invited to apply.

Students enter the competition by registering as a team of three to five members.  Registration will open in May 2012, with the competition’s activities commencing in September. The official launch of FYI 2013 was made at this week’s Going Global international education conference in London and follows the success of FYI 2011 – which drew entries from more than 2,600 students representing 287 universities and 75 countries.
