SpiceJet Looks Into Amphibious Operations

Quest Kodiak Aircraft Would Be Used To Establish The Service

Indian carrier SpiceJet is reportedly looking at adding seaplane/amphibious operations to its portfolio through a deal with Japan’s Setouchi Holdings, the owner of Idaho-based Quest Aircraft which manufactures Kodiak airplanes.

CH-Aviation relays a report from The Times of India which indicates that the budget carrier and the Japanese company are planning to sign a Memorandum of Understanding during a visit by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe next week. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Setouchi Holdings is also the parent firm of Setouchi Seaplanes (SSN) and Sky Trek Airlines. Both use Kodiak 100 airplanes for their operations.

CH-Aviation says that there are several carriers looking at the amphibious market, including Seabird Seaplane, Mehair, Kerala Seaplane, and Pinnacle Air.
