AMA Drone Report 11.07.19: Drone Safety Wk, MultiGP, NTSB Drones

Also: Mavic Mini, Operating Standards, UK Drone Operators, Drones Reveal Secrets

The FAA has been noting that it is in the middle of its first National Drone Safety Awareness Week, Nov. 4-10, 2019.

The FAA’s says their highest priority, “is to ensure the safety of the National Airspace System (NAS) as we continue to safely integrate drones into the NAS. This is an opportunity to share your commitment to drone safety. During this week-long campaign, the FAA will be highlighting how key sectors use drones for good. Many of our stakeholder communities are planning local events that engage and educate the general public about drone safety.” We’re big fans of MultiGP. MultiGP hosts quite a number of competitive gatherings and casual events around the country and currently has over 20,000 registered pilots in addition to 500 active chapters worldwide. And, we’re particularly intrigued by the ‘RaceDayQuads 2019 MultiGP Championship Presented by DRL.’ The top-100 pilots in their newly-launched Sport Class division will start competing today through Saturday (Nov 9) in the Sport Class Championship. With two Drone Racing Tracks on-site, the field will narrow over the weekend down to the Top-16 to compete for the inaugural Sport Class Championship Title. The manned aviation community has had a tough few weeks, but last month’s loss of a WWII B-17 and members of its crew were some of the worst times in recent memory. The Warbird folks are a particularly tight bunch and felt the loss of these fine people and an historic airframe, deeply. Very deeply. Despite the sadness; there has been great interest in the accident investigation because such work produces information that can often enhance aviation safety for all. The NTSB has released some of the drone footage that has been carefully used to document the accident scene for this once-proud aircraft and publicly promotes the usefulness and value of drones to the rest of the world. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
