Pilot Writes Notes For Students, Teacher On Flight

Return From Class Trip Was Delayed By Fog

A group of 31 U.K. students who had traveled to Cyprus with their parents for a holiday in late October got delayed by weather on their return flight to Gatwick Airport, causing them to miss school for a day.

Gatwick was fogged in on the Sunday they were supposed to return in order to make it to class Monday, November 2. The U.K. newspaper The Daily Mail reports that the flight was delayed by about 20 hours.

When they were finally able to depart for home, Easy Jet Capt. Wayne Mott announced over the plane's PA system ... he says jokingly ... that if anyone needed a note for school explaining their absence he would be happy to write one.

He got requests for notes from 31 students and a teacher.

One student, 8-year-old Joshua Skuse who attends Herne Junior School in Petersfield, Hampshire, shared the not Capt. Mott wrote. It said:

"I am very sorry that Joshua was not at school today.
"He has been involved in a secret mission in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea at very short notice.
"We hope that this mission will soon be complete and that he will see you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Tuesday morning."

Hopefully the kids were able to keep a copy of the note to be enshrined on their refrigerators at home.
