Airborne 05.14.14: Airshows Impress, Pipistrel LSA Audit OK, Asiana Fallout

Also: Balloon Accident, Cathay Pacific Uniform Flap, Renny Price!, Airliner v UAV

According to the International Council of AirShows (ICAS), air shows throughout the country are reporting strong attendance. Whether big or small, civilian or military, with or without military jet teams, pent up demand generated by the cancellations of the 2013 air show season seems to be fueling higher-than-normal enthusiasm among the three dozen or so shows that have already been held this year.

We have another follow-up on the tragic Asiana Airlines accident that occurred at San Francisco International Airport last July. The woman who was driving a piece of firefighting equipment accused of accidentally running over a passenger ejected from an Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 after it landed short and struck a seawall has filed a lawsuit against the San Francisco Fire Department.  FAA audit delegation, led by Robert Franklin and joined by Edsel Ford and Nam Cho, visited and verified compliance to FAA regulation and ASTM LSA standards at Pipistrel's factories in Italy and Slovenia. The audit consisted of compliance verification of Pipistrel's products, production organization, continued airworthiness procedures, maintenance aspects, and documentation for LSA aircraft sold in the USA market. All this... and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
