Classic Aero-TV: Anticipating Futurespace - Blue Origin Visits Airventure 2017

From 2017 (YouTube Version): Flight-Proven Booster On Display At AirVenture…

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is known primarily as a celebration of experimental and amateur-built aircraft. But over the years, the scope of the show has grown to include all aspects of aviation and aerospace.

Enter Blue Origin, an aerospace company that has seen significant success over the past two years launching and recovering reusable boosters with an eye towards suborbital space tourism and commercial space launches. And this year, the Blue Origin New Shepard booster was on display at Boeing Plaza at AirVenture 2017.

Rob Meyerson, President of Blue Origin, told ANN CEO and Editor in Chief Jim Campbell, that the company decided to have a presence at AirVenture to introduce their rocket to a broader audience, and give people a glimpse of the capsule that they hope will one day carry paying passengers on suborbital flights.

Meyerson said that the goal of the company is to open up the space frontier to more people. One of the keys to that is operational reusability, he said. That will bring the cost down to a point where average people can fly into space. But it will take decades, he said, to reach that goal of having spaceflight readily available to the public.

He advises young people to get involved in hands-on build projects and focus on STEM subjects to have an opportunity to be involved in the aerospace industry in the future.
