UK's Reid Says Europe Faces 'Very Real' Terror Threat

Meets With Other EU Leaders To Hash Out Plan

If anyone still thinks the latest security restrictions on flights out of the UK are much ado about nothing... John Reid says think again.

The BBC reports that following a meeting this week with his European Union counterparts in London, the British Home Secretary said Europe faces a "persistent and very real" threat from terrorism.

Reid added the presence of five other interior ministers and top EU officials symbolised Europe's determination to stand together and defend their values... and to also develop practical measures, such as coordinating transport security and exploring the nature of Islam in Europe, to combat new attacks.

Reid also called for a crackdown on internet sites used to incite terrorism.

Other matters -- such as the European Commission's current attempts to persuade governments to give up their veto powers in the area of criminal justice, arguing that it will help the anti-terrorism effort -- are still open to debate.

Reid said that all in attendance at the conference agreed on one matter, however -- that a united Europe will win the battle with the terrorists.
