Daytona Beach Declares 'Women in Aviation Day'

Mayor, Congressman Present Peggy Chabrian Proclaimation

It was "Women In Aviation Day" in Daytona earlier this month as Mayor Yvonne Scarlet-Golden presented a proclamation to Women in Aviation International President Dr. Peggy Chabrian.

The proclamation on May 9th was part of a luncheon honoring Dr. Peggy Chabrian (below, right) held on Embry-Riddle's Daytona Beach, Florida, campus and hosted by Congressman John Mica (R-Florida) and Dr. George Ebbs, president of Embry-Riddle. 

Congressman Mica read into the Congressional Record on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, a salute to Dr. Chabrian and Women in Aviation, International. The luncheon's 50 guests were mostly women business leaders from the local area.

The "Women in Aviation Day" Proclamation from the City of Daytona Beach read, in part:

  Whereas: Women in Aviation, International, which have headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida, has more than 7,000 members including astronauts, corporate pilots, maintenance technicians, air traffic controllers, business owners, educators, journalists, flight attendants, high school and university students, air show performers, airport managers and many other and

  Whereas: Women in Aviation, International promotes public understanding of the accomplishments and contributions of women in aviation including historic notables such as Amelia Earhart, Bessie Coleman, Eileen Collins and Jeana Yeager: and

  Whereas: Women in Aviation, International's 2005 theme is "Achieving Individual and Industry Success through Strategic Alliances and Now, therefore, the City of Daytona Beach hereby proclaims Monday, May 9, 2005 as "Women in Aviation Day."
