A 6,500 Mile Flight Around The U.S.
We think 13-year-old Delaney Sullivan may have one of he best
"What I did on my summer vacation" essays ever when she goes back
to school. Her dad, Steve Sullivan who is a member of the IMC Club
since November 2009 and who also sits on its board of directors, is
taking her on a "Flight Around America" in their Cirrus SR22.
They took off on Monday August 2nd, 2010 for a 25 day, 6500 mile
flight around the United States. They plan to stop at 20 mostly
small airports to visit family and friends and see the sights, from
Lake Superior to the Pacific coast to Key West and places in
between. “I’ve been dreaming about this trip for many
years hoping to one day show our daughter, and our youngest son
(whose flight will be next year), the wonders of our country. I
also hope they’ll come away with an appreciation for the
privilege we pilots have of being able to fly nearly anywhere in
our country without a lot of fuss.” said Steve Sullivan just
before departure.
Steve and Delaney are keeping a blog about their trip, which is
linked from the IMC Club's website. They have already made it to
Yellowstone National Park, and other planned stops include Glacier
National Park in Montana, The Grand Canyon, San Antonio, TX, and
Key West, FL, among others.
IMC Club was established to reengage pilots with other pilots
and instructors. IMC club is coaching, training, mentoring and
helping pilots to fly in actual instrument meteorological
conditions.
