AeroSports Update: First U.S.A. Sling Taildragger Sold

Why Would TAF Offer Their Sling 2 Tricycle Gear Airplane As A Taildragger…Just Ask Any Taildragger Pilot That Question

The Airplane Factory, Inc. has sold its first U.S. based Sling Taildragger, known as the Sling TD. This tailwheel version of the Sling 2 is the latest model designed by Mike Blyth and The Airplane Factory team. The factory received the U.S. order and has already begun the production process. This beautiful, ready-to-fly S-LSA should arrive in the U.S. in about 6 months and TAF says they’re excited to have it join the Sling family.

The Sling LSA, also known as Sling 2, was conceived in 2006 as a result of Mike Blyth’s desire to build a light sport aircraft that had better performance and handling characteristics than anything else on the market. Mike, the designer of the Sling and founder of The Airplane Factory, spent three years designing the first Sling.

About a year ago, in the fall of 2013, the first tailwheel Sling was born.  The Sling TD is almost identical to the Sling 2 in every aspect and characteristic.  The major difference is seen in the shape and location of the main gear and, of course, the tailwheel. It still features the robust characteristics of a Sling 2 aircraft but offers more prop clearance and, taildragger lovers might say, more fun.

The Sling TD is available as a factory-built, ready-to-fly (RTF) LSA, and is also available as an experimental kit build.  Costing anywhere from $135,000-$155,000 for a RTF S-LSA or $78,000 as a kit, the Sling TD is a great option for any recreational pilot, back country flyers, and tailwheel flight schools.
