J3 Cub Lands Near Sandia National Laboratories In CA

Pilot Reportedly Taken Away In Handcuffs

There are few details, but the pilot of a Piper J3 Cub who experienced engine problems and made an emergency landing Sunday was reportedly arrested after landing near Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA.

Television Station KGO-TV reports that the Cub was landed in a field near the government facility on Sunday. Witnesses said that authorities approached the airplane with guns drawn, and the pilot was taken away in handcuffs.

According to FAA spokesperson Ian Gregor, the plane experienced an engine problem and made the precautionary landing in a  field about five miles from Livermore Municipal Airport.

The incident remains under investigation.
