Boeing Delivers Emirates' First 777-200LR Worldliner

Carrier Has 10 Long-Legged Triple Sevens On Order

Boeing told ANN recently the American planemaker completed delivery August 31 of the first 777-200LR Worldliner bound for Dubai-based Emirates.

As ANN reported, Emirates placed an order for 24 777-300ERs, 10 777-200LRs and 8 777 Freighters at the Dubai Air Show in 2005. The deal was valued at $9.7 billion at list prices.

Emirates will use the new aircraft to extend routes to key European and Asian cities, and fly to emerging markets. The long-haul aircraft will also be utilized to begin direct flights to the US West Coast.

Boeing bills its 777-200LR as the world's longest-range twin-engine commercial jet; Emirates is one of the largest operators of the 777 family.

The 777-200LR received its FAA certification in February 2006, less than four months after one of two Worldliners in the certification program completed a 11,664nm journey to establish a new world record for nonstop distance travelled by a commercial airplane.
