Boeing To Wind Down CH-47 Work In Macon, GA

About 100 Jobs Will Be Shed By The Company

Boeing will be discontinuing work on the CH-47 Chinook helicopter program in Macon, GA over the next two years, which will result in the loss of about 100 jobs. Those job cuts come on top of the approximately 300 that will be shed as work on the C-17 Globemaster winds down at the same location.

Boeing announced the moved in meeting with employees last Thursday, according to a report in the Macon Telegraph. Boeing Spokesman Ken Smith said that the Chinook work will be ending by early 2016.

The phaseout of the two programs will leave only about 100 Boeing jobs in Macon. Those workers will build replacement wings for the A-10 Thunderbolt, according to the paper.

Smith praised the workforce for its productivity, saying "management felt that we needed to give them as much notice as possible so they could plan ahead for their futures."

Some of the workers may be able to transfer to Boeing's South Carolina operation to work on Dreamliners, according to Smith. He said the company is also looking to secure additional work on the A-10 program.
