NYC Inmate Pays For Banner Flight

Tries To Draw Attention To His Case With An Aerial Display

An inmate facing deportation on charges he stole credit card numbers is said to have hired a plane Tuesday to fly a banner of a jail complex in New York City. The banner reportedly read "V. Vassilenko jailed 5+ yrs - no trial - is this legal?"

An Associated Press story says the New York Post reported that Vadim Vassilenko, who has been held at the Manhattan Detention Complex since 2007, had someone outside the prison wire $1,250 to the banner company to fly the 'advertisement' for two hours behind a Cessna 172.

Vassilenko said through his lawyer that he wants to be with his family in Ukraine. He may get that wish if he's deported after the credit card fraud charges are dealt with.
