Flight Design Includes Rotax 912 DVD With Aircraft

Details Proper Operation, Maintenance Practices

Flight Design tells ANN it now packages a DVD video and booklet with every new CT Special-Light Sport Aircraft (SLSA) the company sells.

The goal is to better educate owners of the best-selling Flight Design CTSW in the United States. The new DVD from ASA's Freedom to Fly video series covers the operation and maintenance of a Rotax 912 and is aimed at aircraft owners.

As ANN reported, the ASA video -- provided without additional charge to all new CT buyers -- features filmmaker and Sport Pilot expert Paul Hamilton, with Phil Lockwood of Lockwood Aviation and Dean Vogel from the Aero Technical Institute.

"This DVD is particularly useful to maintenance professionals, but also to our owners operating their Rotax-powered CT," said Matthias Betsch, CEO of the German producer. The DVD normally sells for $49.95 and runs 68 minutes. Additionally included are 17 minutes of bonus features plus a booklet with quick reference checklists.

"Flight Design USA is very pleased to partner with ASA and Adventure Productions to demonstrate care and concern for our customers," said Tom Peghiny, president of Flight Design USA. "We represent the leading seller in the this rapidly-expanding industry and we intend to stay on top by doing right by our customers."

The CT enjoys a 22% share of all registered LSA airplanes after two and a half years and despite no fewer than 53 certified SLSA models introduced in that time. Nearly 200 CTs are flying in the USA at this time.

ASA's Rotax 912 documentary covers a wide range from checking the oil to reviews of the electrical system or carburetor synchronization to cold weather techniques. "Learning the right methods can prolong engine life and reduce maintenance costs," reports Adventure Production's Paul Hamilton.

Under ASTM Industry Consensus Standards, manufacturers are to provide for Continued Airworthiness in a number of ways. Better educating customers is one of the most practical and the issuance of Rotax 912 engine information with every CT delivered is regarded with favor by FAA officials.

Flight Design is a 21-year-old air sport products producer based in Germany. Over 1,000 of its aircraft are flying in 25 countries. One of the first aircraft certified under the American ASTM standards, in 2005, the CT ("composite technology") is currently the best-selling LSA in America. CT in several models has been popular in Germany and Europe for more than ten years.
